A Look Ahead
Wow! A Master’s Degree in Educational Technology! Now what? Well, I always knew that I was a lifelong learner. As my home page motto states: “If It Is To Be, It Is Up To Me!” My Master’s Degree is another completed chapter in my book of life. How will the next several chapters read? Well as many of my friends and co-worker have said “you are a career student”. I think there is a bit of truth to that statement because every since I was a kid my goal was always to learn something new every day no matter how big or how small. My interest in technology came about from my prior job with LaSalle Bank and Bank of America. They had some of the latest and state of the art technologies available in the industry.
My lifelong learning plan is to focus on my career and getting back into a position that will allow me the opportunity to utilize my skills in training, technology, instructional design & development, which is what I love so much. This is where my true career passion resides. It is helping people achieve their goals and succeed in their careers by teaching and providing the necessary resources for them to become successful in their jobs.
Keeping up with technology is important to me as it is the way of the future. It will be important to continue my education through online resources, periodic classes, and seminars. I will continue my career in real estate and share my knowledge with clients along the way. So there will also be a need to attend and participate in online and face to face learning opportunities also within the real estate world. Real Estate courses are pre-scheduled through the association and online courses are abundant so it will be easy to stay up to speed and date on them. It will be finding the time to stay up on currently technologies that will be a challenge. Being affiliated with Educause and MACUL will certainly help. Educause is a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. MACUL is the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning which is also a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to assisting the education community through support, promotion, and leadership in the effective use of educational technology. Currently being on their email list, regular updates and interesting articles are sent my way to help keep me up to speed on the latest and greatest technologies out there. The Master’s of Educational Technology program at MSU has also allowed me to make some great contacts and connections along the way that I am sure I will stay in contact with in the future.
The course, CEP 820 Teaching K-12 Students Online introduced me to not only learning how to create a Screencast using Jing, it also taught me how to create an online learning course using Moodle. The CEP 811 made using PowerPoint to educate students very interesting with learning the fundamentals of creating a standalone instructional resource (Stair). Then there is the final class in the program that I have enjoyed the most and have learned so much, CEP 807 Capstone. This course brings it all together, all that has been learned over the last couple of years and enables me to create a take away; a Portfolio that allows me to showcase all my hard work in the program, my goals and samples of my work. This by far has been the most enjoyable and it really gives me a sense of accomplishment to create a website that showcases my accomplishments.
